Chamber (2-15 players)

B E A C O N (2017) 10"
for sinfonietta
for the 73rd Wellesley Composers Conference
Premiered July26, 2017 at Wellesley College

PROGRAM NOTE: I used to frequently make long drives home across several states during the dead of night. During these drives I would find my eyes drawn to the tall, pulsating red lights used to guide airplanes across the earth. Collections of these beacons would slowly pass by, each pulsating in their own time. These asynchronous displays had a soothing hypnotic quality that resonated with me in emotional and musical ways. In Beacon(2017), for sinfonietta, I use pointillistic pulses and blurry canons to explore this experience musically in addition to addressing the general notion of a beacon, guiding someone home.
